The University has existing exchanges with the University of Lyon in France, the Free University of Berlin (Germany), the University of Bologna in Italy, Lund University in Sweden, and Queen's University Belfast (Northern Ireland). Additional exchanges may include locations in Dortmund, Germany; Dublin, Ireland; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Freiburg, Germany; Brussels, Belgium; Athens, Greece; as well as in Spain. If these exchanges do not suit your needs, you may also petition to attend other European universities. We are committed to working closely with our students to identify suitable sites for a semester abroad to support their specific intellectual goals for this program. My semester in Belfast was the most enjoyable time of my academic career. The experience of taking graduate courses at Queen’s University Belfast was invigorating and refreshed my interest in my research topic. I made a great group of friends and we still regularly communicate and make plans to visit each other. I am really grateful for the immersive experience and I think without a doubt that my research benefited from my time abroad. The chance to study abroad was a strong draw for this program for me and I am so thankful that I was able to study in Belfast.

I greatly enjoyed my semester abroad in Lund. I was privileged to take graduate courses administered by exceptional instructors and centered on subjects that are rarely taught at most schools in the USA. Because there were so few other Americans at Lund University, I was motivated to step outside my usual social bubble and befriend students who hailed from across the world, exchanging cultures and perspectives with them. Sweden itself was different from any other country to which I have been, and I took much pleasure in utilizing the excellent public transportation to explore its diverse cities and beautiful countryside. I will always be extremely grateful to have partook in this unique experience.
