Berlin-based photographer Anna Lehmann-Brauns, a leading figures in Germany's avantgarde photography scene, will spend 10 days in residency at the University of Virginia. Known for her unique approach to "straight" photography, Lehmann-Brauns explores the tension between real and fictional spaces, creating evocative images that capture absence and memory. Her works, such as Paradise Black (2014) and Chez Icke (2023), delve into forgotten places and imaginary worlds, evoking a sense of melancholy and storytelling through abandoned sites and miniature models.
An exhibition of her work will open on March 20th in the Nau-Gibson Commons Gallery on the 2nd floor. Along with the exhibition, Lehmann-Brauns will conduct a workshop in German for students in the Advanced German Seminar, as well as a general workshop open to any interested UVA student. This is a great opportunity to engage directly with the artist and gain insight into her creative process!
